Ch-Ch-Changes to the 16th Annual DECA Virtual Business Challenge

by Jeff Rutherford

Every school year, thousands of DECA members and chapters across the U.S. and Canada compete in the DECA Virtual Business Challenge (VBC). After two online rounds, the VBC’s top online finalists will compete head to head in Atlanta, Georgia in April 2018 at DECA ICDC.

Team registration for the DECA VBC begins October 10 (check out the How To Register video below). Any high school DECA member in the U.S. or Canada can participate in the DECA VBC for free even if your high school does not currently use Virtual Business simulations in the classroom.

This year there are several changes to the 16th Annual DECA VBC.

New online competition dates: The length of the online VBC rounds has been shortened. The two rounds are October 24, 2017, 10:00 a.m. ET - November 3, 2017, 5:00 p.m. ET and January 9, 2018, 10:00 a.m. ET - January 19, 2018, 5:00 p.m. ET.

Greater access to the full simulation: In previous years’ VBCs, the challenges utilized only select functions from each Virtual Business simulation. This year competitors will have access to almost the complete functionality of every simulation - offering a much more challenging and in-depth experience for competitors.

Virtual Business - Fashion: VB Fashion, the latest Virtual Business simulation, was released a year ago for high school classrooms. This year VB Fashion will be added to the DECA VBC competition. Students can compete to build the most profitable fashion business.

Every year, thousands of high school DECA members compete in the DECA VBC. We’re constantly listening to teachers and DECA members about the VBC and what they like about the competitions. We think these changes will lead to an even better DECA VBC.

Get ready to compete, and get your Virtual Business running on October 24th!
